A Brief BioKenneth Wesson delivers keynote addresses on the neuroscience of learning for educational organizations and institutions throughout the United States and overseas. His audiences range from pre-school and early childhood specialists to college and university-level administrators and faculty members. His recent international audiences have included educators and chief administrative officers from South America, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Northern Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa. He has spoken to educators and administrators from six of the worlds seven continents. Wesson regularly addresses educational organizations, counseling associations, school districts and civic groups, as well as parenting organizations on establishing brain-considerate learning environments. In addition to his speeches on the neuroscience of learning, Wesson also speaks on the subjects of early brain development, emotional intelligence, the Neuropsychology of prejudice, contextual learning, diversity in learning, design and engineering, and curriculum development. He is also frequently asked to serve as an expert witness in court cases involving brain trauma and memory. Kenneths recent work has included delivering addresses to the IBM Corporation; the Johnson and Johnson Corporation; American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; the Summer Institute for the National Academy of Sciences; the American Society for Microbiology; the Hawaiian Association for Counselors and Educators in Government; Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences); the National Alliance of Business; Head Start; the Aging To Perfection Conference; the Great Teachers Seminars; the National Science Foundations Systemic Initiatives for Math and Science; the IDATER Conference (International Design and Technology Educational Research and Curriculum Development), and numerous American colleges and universities. He has been a keynote speaker for several of the leading international educational organizations for American and International schools, including the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA), the Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA), the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), the Near East South Asia schools (NESA), along with numerous American educational organizations, school districts, and colleges. Wessons articles on the brain include: Early Brain Development and Learning, Where is God in the Brain?, What Recent Brain Research Tells Us About Learning, and Memory and the Brain. Several of his articles appeared in the Independent School Journal, which was recently honored by the Association of Education Publishers (AEP) as the 2005 "Periodical of the Year." He has Served as a science writer for Science IQ contributing articles on brain research Worked as an Educational Consultant for Stanford Research Institute (SRI) Taught at the college and university levels (and for the staff at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center) Worked on the development and marketing of several of the nation's leading mathematics, science and reading programs. Coordinated the efforts of one of the nation's major publishers with America's largest school systems and the National Science Foundation (in mathematics and science). Served as a keynote speaker around the world (on the physiological and theoretical basis of how learning occurs inside the human brain.) He will also address the Association of American Schools in Central America, Colombia, the Caribbean and Mexico, and the Science Teachers Association of New York State (whose other speakers include Dr. Joycelyn Elders, the former U.S. Surgeon General and Dr. Richard Roberts of Great Britain, the recipient of the 1993 Nobel prize for Physiology/Medicine). In addition to these events, Wesson will speak as part of the Distinguished Scientist Lecture Series in Santa Monica, CA and he will deliver the Design and Technology Associations Professor John Eggleston Memorial Lecture in England. Each year, the NSTA and Shell Oil Company identify 4-6 people, who they feel are making unique contributions to science research and education. Those individuals (the "Shell Science Scholars") are invited to address the members of the NSTA at their annual conference and are also honored at a special reception. This group includes the 1998 Nobel Prize winner for Physics, the Director of the Human Genome Project and Kenneth Wesson. The NSTA is the world's largest educational organization (scientists, researchers and science educators) with over 53,000 members dedicated to the improvement of science education. February 2007 |
